How to Design the Ultimate Roller Banner: 6 Tips

In this modern day, we are bombarded with advertisements from every possible outlet. We have become so accustomed to seeing adverts that it’s easy to let our eyes glaze over and avoid them. Every company wants their brand or advert to stand out, but unfortunately, not all of them do.

Roller Banners are a powerful way to ensure that no matter where you are, your company and product stands out. They can make a big impact in your store, at expos or trade fairs. Portable, affordable and able to be updated, they are an extremely cost-effective advertising option.

But how can you make the most of this advertising tool? One way is to make sure you put everything you can into the design.

Here are some design tips to help you make the ultimate roller banner.

1) Make your logo and message the focus.

The most powerful place for your logo and company message to be is at eye-level, as it will grab the attention of passers-by. Your message may be a phrase, a motto, or you may even choose to use an image of the product or service you sell. Whichever you choose, make sure it stands out as the first thing they see.

2) Use good quality images.

Your roller banner may be the first time a person comes across your company - don’t let the first thing they see be a low resolution image you have copied and pasted. Most printers advise that the image be at least 300 dpi, but talk to the people printing your banner about what size resolution and file type they they recommend.

3) Don’t be afraid of colour.

Colour is an absolutely vital tool in design when used properly. You may already have a colour scheme for your company, but if not, don't be afraid to get familiar with colour. Choose colours that will really stand out and catch the eye. There are some colour combinations that have been tried and tested, for example, yellow and white combined make an advertisement very hard to read, whereas red and/or orange can really demand attention.

4) Contact Information.

What would an advertisement be without some way to get in touch? Your contact details are vital if you want to generate business with your new advertising tool. You might think this is slightly redundant if the banner is placed inside your business or store, but the versatility of a roller banner is portability! Should you take it to an exhibition or expo where you may not be able to speak to everyone, you want people to be able to get in touch. Social media may also be useful to include, as it allows people to follow your company even if they don’t need your services right away, meaning they’ll remember you in the future.

5) Remember reading direction. 

Something that is often forgotten in the search for creative advertising is that people read from left to right, and top to bottom. Any advertisement that tries to get creative with reading direction serves to confuse its audience.

6) Think minimal.

You want your banner to catch the eye and immediately highlight your product/service. If there are mass amounts of text or information, most people may just walk on by. Think minimally. What do people absolutely need to know about my company, and how can I get this across in as few words as possible? More information is always available on your website or from your sales team. Let the buyer come to you for more information.
