If you want to increase brand awareness, custom stationery should be an essential part of your strategy. Although many businesses operate digitally, there will always be a need for offline stationery. By choosing branded stationery, you can use the opportunity to reinforce your brand attributes and corporate personality. Furthermore, custom stationery allows you to highlight your professionalism, authenticity and success.

To find out why branded stationery is such an important part of a successful branding strategy, take a look at some of the benefits it offers:

1. Increase Brand Awareness

When your company name, logo, graphics and/or typography is visible on pens, business cards, letters, post-it notes and envelopes, you’re generating a substantial amount of brand awareness. Remember – it won’t just be the recipient who sees your custom content. Effective branding significantly increases your reach, which is why custom stationery is so successful at pushing awareness of your business to new heights.

2. Convey Brand Messages

The graphics, designs and imagery you use tells people about your brand. From the font and typography to your company colours, every element of your design helps to create an image of your business. An embossed letterhead on thick, textured paper might be just the right combination for a law office or accountancy firm, for example. Alternatively, a bright, full-page background with bold typeface might be perfect for a creative agency or web design company.

3. Cultivate a Strong Team

Custom stationery doesn’t just have an impact on customers, clients and your target audience. By using branded stationery in-house, you can strengthen the sense of camaraderie and foster a strong team mentality. When employees are regularly reminded of the company logo and brand, it acts as a subconscious reminder of their professional purpose. Used to motivate staff, custom stationery can even have an impact on productivity and efficiency within your business.

4. Establish Authority

People like to engage with companies they trust. In fact, you could lose a lot of business if you don’t take steps to ensure that your target audience trusts you. When you’re managing your online profile, for example, you’ll want to use a secure website so that potential customers have confidence that you’re an authentic brand.

Similarly, it’s important to factor authenticity into your offline communications too. Of course, overtly telling your target audience to trust you is rarely effective. In fact, it’s the smaller, almost imperceptible touches, that build trust subconsciously. Custom stationery plays an important role in this process.

As well as helping your business to establish professionalism, the use of branded stationery authenticates your business. By doing so, your target audience will feel confident that you’re a brand they can safely engage with. What’s more, custom stationery will help your potential customers and clients to feel comfortable sharing their data and personal identifiably information (PII) with you.

5. Cohesive Branding

Your brand should always be at the forefront of your mind when making any type of business decision. Every product or service you release should reflect your core branding, whilst all of your marketing materials should reflect your key brand messages. However, branding is never done in isolation.

Every interaction someone has with your business helps them to form an opinion of your brand, so it’s essential that your branding is cohesive, unified and integrated. Using custom stationery may seem like a relatively small aspect of your branding but it plays a more significant role than you might think.

Every offline interaction you have with a potential or existing customer will involve some form of stationery. From receipts to direct mail and invoices to event invitations; every offline interaction can reflect your brand if you use bespoke stationery.

What Type of Custom Stationery is Right for Your Business?

No matter what industry you operate in, there are some staple pieces of stationery you’ll need. These include:

  • Letterheads
  • Invoices
  • Business cards
  • Envelopes
  • Compliment slips

In addition to this, you may want to incorporate event invitations, reminders, direct mail and even pens or pencils in your range of custom stationery. Using custom stationery in-house isn’t your only option.

Many companies increase brand awareness and generate sales by using branded stationery as promotional items. Giving away branded pens, memory sticks or even phone cases rewards customers for their loyalty, reinforces your brand in their minds and increases your reach in terms of increasing brand awareness.

When you consider how many uses there are for custom stationery and the benefits it offers, it’s easy to see why so many companies consider it to be an essential element of their branding.

Designing Custom Stationery

Although branded stationery should always feature your core branding imagery, creating the perfect range of custom stationery isn’t as simple as copying and pasting your existing logos or company name on to various different substrates.

You’ll want to consider what type of paper or card you’re using for envelopes, invites and letterheads. Similarly, you’ll need to decide whether embossing, debossing or hot foilingwill enhance your custom stationery and brand message. In addition to this, you may want to add special features, such as UV paint, to create added impact.

When it comes to custom stationery, there are endless options. By talking to an experienced printer, you can learn more about creating the perfect range for your business. In addition to this, you’ll benefit from specialist design and formatting tips that will help you to reduce your costs and improve your outputs.

Where does the time go?! Only one year ago we opened our doors in our new studio in SE1! IPW1 not only made a colourful start in SE1 but we ensured we made our new house a home. As well as needing more room we wanted to make sure our commitment and investment to innovation and digital printing technology was reflected in our brand. We'd refreshed the brand, we'd invested in innovation and we had the Xerox Iridesse Express! So how did we do?

We want to be recognised for our commitment to many of the big topics impacting us all; carbon emissions, reducing energy consumption, recycling, diversity and inclusion. For anyone that’s moved house after a number of years, you know how daunting this can be. As Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer tell us, it’s about Location, Location, Location and once you’ve found your ideal property you then need to maximise the Amazing Space and come up with Grand Designs without input & guidance from George Clarke and Kevin McCloud!! Yet we’ve done it!! We were bursting at the seams at our previous London printing studio in Great Portland Street [GPS] W1 as, in response to customer demand, we’d continued to invest to ensure we kept pace with the advancements in Xerox digital printing technology as far as the space would allow us. The advancements since we took our very first Xerox Iridesse in 2018, the first in Europe, have been out of this world. With its speciality colour printing of gold, silver, white, clear and fluorescent pink, we loved it and so did our customers. So much so we soon found ourselves with Xerox number 2. Again we loved it, and so did our customers, new and old. We were able to translate creative designs and requests like never before and in 2022, knowing we needed add to our Xerox Iridesse fleet yet again, it was clear. We had outgrown our Great Portland Street home.
